BINUS UNIVERSITY Partners with Tomas Bata University
Leading higher education institution in Indonesia, BINUS UNIVERSITY initiated a partnership with Czech Republic’s Tomas Bata University encompassing the scope of student exchange programmes, showcasing student projects as well as tourism promotion-related activities. Since the cooperation began in 2013, BINUS UNIVERSITY and its partner has hosted numerous events which strives to encourage breakthrough ideas from enrolled students. Among these include a student project initiated by Ms Yessica Riyany of BINUS UNIVERSITY during a student exchange programme at Tomas Bata University that resulted in the “Story Without Words” project; the initiative sought to explore as well as introduce folklore in Indonesia and the Czech Republic to an international audience. As a continuation of the project, BINUS UNIVERSITY also held a photography exhibition at its Anggrek campus location on 28th – 29th October 2015. Attendees at the event included BINUS UNIVERSITY students Ms Gina Irianti, Ms Rarasati Putri in addition to Tomas Bata University students Ms Lucia Sekerková and Mr Filip Beránek among many others.
The folklore-inspired project combined various elements of fashion photography and literature that is in keeping with the goal of utilising an interdisciplinary approach in higher education learning; the project additionally involved the participation of eight Tomas Bata University students. As such, Ms Yessica gained the opportunity to feature one of her photographs during a Tomas Bata University exhibition event that took place in the Czech Republic. Moving in-line with the success of the project, BINUS UNIVERSITY is currently in discussion to publish the book Fairy Tales which is a contemporary approach to fairy tale books; the aim is to utilise photography as images within the book in comparison to artwork. Through the ongoing collaboration with its partner, BINUS UNIVERSITY is therefore better equipped to encourage innovative measures that is well-poised to benefit the university’s students in the field of arts.
