BINUS International Office

All Aboard to Pari Island! A Warm Welcome to our Inbound Students to BINUS UNIVERSITY!

Jakarta, 10 September 2023 – Our international office team organised a jam-packed Welcome Trip to Pari Island in the Thousand Islands of Jakarta for 32 inbound students. They are from Belgium, Brunei Darussalam, Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, Japan and several other neighbouring countries!

It was an opportunity for these students to immerse themselves in the local culture, connect with fellow inbound students and local peers, and gain a deeper appreciation for the diverse facets of Indonesia, which will help them settle in the new country for their studies.

“So my opinion about this welcome trip is that it’s kind of fun because it’s my first time snorkelling, so I’m excited about it,” said Nurul Izzah Syahira Binti Riduan, an inbound student from Universiti Teknologi Mara, Malaysia.

With the help of our iBuddy+ team, who went above and beyond to ensure that our international students felt welcomed. Their presence offered a sense of familiarity and provided valuable insights into local customs and traditions.

In less than one-hour boat ride, our students arrived at the pristine Pari Island, where they enjoyed breathtaking views of tranquil beaches, starkly contrasting the bustling city life they had initially encountered.

“This trip made me closer to my fellow peers (iBuddy+), the new international students, and the staff! I want to thank all the parties involved in making this a fun and successful trip!” said Made Bulanabela Bagiada, our student majoring in Cyber Security.

Cultural immersion was another critical aspect of this trip. Participants were encouraged to engage in various cultural activities to sample local cuisines and interact with the welcoming residents. This exposure broadened their horizons and gave them a deeper understanding of Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage.

“It has been amazing. It’s very different from Jakarta. So nice, and I can enjoy the fresh air,” said Kalle Petteri, an inbound student from Tampere University, Finland.

It was a testament to BINUS University’s commitment to providing its international students with an enriching and inclusive educational experience. The hope is that the connections made during this trip will serve as the foundation for a fruitful academic journey at the university and a lifelong appreciation for our diverse world.
