The outbreak of the novel coronavirus has become a global pandemic. The COVID-19 (coronavirus diseases) has affected all aspects of the human being. Would the pandemic impact international education and student mobility?

Since March 2020, BINUS University has been canceling most of the staff and student mobility to decrease the spread of COVID-19. Most countries closed their borders, caused almost zero individuals to come to BINUS University, either for a visit or a mobility program. BINUS shifted the scale of international learning to provide an international experience for its staff and students.

BINUS International Office collaborated with Rangsit University, Thailand, hosting a virtual P2A Journey (for more information about P2A and P2A journey, please visit www.p2a.asia). Eight Thai students and 5 BINUS students participated in the 3-day Virtual Journey Program themed “Pandemic: Social and Behavior Changes”. During the program, participating students discussed how the pandemic changed our social life and behavior. They developed some insights and ideas on how the young people can in ASEAN cope with the pandemic.

All the participating students showed great satisfaction with the program. They expressed how happy they are to have new foreign friends despite the pandemic. They suggested a longer duration of the program. Unfortunately, the internet connection was an issue that everyone was facing. The weak signal caused repeated disconnections from the online video-conferencing platform. It affected the enthusiasm and the discussion dynamics during the sessions. Many of the participating students never had an interactive online session before joining the program. They were anxious to see their faces on the screen and nervous to speak up during the discussion. Nevertheless, the students gave positive feedback and showed interest in joining more online programs.
