BINUS UNIVERSITY Provides Free Computer Training
BINUS UNIVERSITY provided a free computer training course for high school students from the areas surrounding its Anggrek Campus in Jakarta. Organised in cooperation with BINUS CSR Unit, Teach for Indonesia (TFI), and the Community Forum for Early Alertness (FKDM), the aim of this programme was to provide youths with the basic skills of computer operations and programming, as well as supporting students who did not have access to a computer to complete their school assignments.
The course consisted of eight, three-hour weekly sessions taught by four seasoned Informatics lecturers from BINUS UNIVERSITY. The syllabus covered both theoretical and practical aspects of computer science which included creating spreadsheets, producing documentation, and developing presentations using Microsoft Office programmes. Furthermore, in supporting the students with this comprehensive programme, the sessions were conducted at the university’s modern-day computer lab featuring cutting-edge technology and facilities.
With major industries in Indonesia becoming ever more dependent on information communication technology, it has become crucial for employees to possess proficient computer literacy. As such, these free short courses are part of the university’s efforts in building the foundations for the development of IT-capable professionals that are ready to increase the productivity and efficiency of businesses across the country.
