BNSD Fashion Student Showcases Her Collection
On 6th September 2017, BINUS Northumbria School of Design (BNSD) student, Ms Risya Novia Permatasari, presented her ready-to-wear collection at Cotton Day Indonesia held by Cotton Council International (CCI) under its trademark COTTON USA at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Jakarta. The event included a national conference on Indonesian textiles and garments followed by a fashion show themed “Daily Me with COTTON USA” at which Ms Permatasari won in the senior category. The fashion show was attended by 250 participants from the fashion and textile industries.
Attracting around 100 executives from Indonesia’s textile and garment sectors, the conference was opened by His Excellency Mr Joseph R. Donovan as US Ambassador to Indonesia, who hoped that the event could encourage an increase in trade between the USA and Indonesia; particularly in relation to the textile sector. Also present at the event was Mr Eduardo Esteve as the President of CCI, Mr Achmad Sigit Dwiwahjono as the Director General of Textiles at the Indonesian Department of Industry and Mr Ade Sudrajat as Chairperson of the Indonesia Textile Association (API).
BNSD’s participation in Cotton Day Indonesia was a result of COTTON USA’s approaches to a number of companies, designers and universities prior to initiating the event. For BNSD, the event is aimed at providing further insights and experiences for fashion students, including greater familiarity of the inner workings of the industry, as well as areas such as quality control and materials comparison.
With the world’s textile, garment and fashion industry players already seeing Indonesia as a market of significant potential, local players including designers and textile manufacturing companies are manoeuvring themselves to improve their capacity and efficiency as well as competitiveness. The achievement of Ms Permatasari and her ready to wear collection at Cotton Day Indonesia illustrates BINUS UNIVERSITY through BNSD’s capability to guide and nurture the talents of its students, as well as to channel them to achieve commercial, industry-wide recognition and success.
