South Korean Ambassador on Bilateral Relations
On 12th June 2017, BINUS UNIVERSITY hosted a Guest Lecture by the Ambassador of the Republic of South Korea to Indonesia H.E. Mr. Cho Taiyoung at its Alam Sutera campus in Tangerang. The Ambassador shared with the students and staff of BINUS UNIVERSITY about the strong bilateral relations between Indonesia and South Korea.
As middle powers, members of G-20 and APEC, while far apart and different in size, the two countries have many common interests. Indonesia and South Korea established diplomatic relations in 1973 and have strategic partnership since 2006. Cooperation focuses on trade, investment, security, and other. South Korea is one of Indonesia’s most important trade partners and biggest foreign investors.
Indonesian and South Korean higher education institutions have been developing strong partnerships in the environment of flourishing friendship between the two countries. As university that extensively collaborates with international institutions, BINUS UNIVERSITY also partners with twenty South Korean universities including Hanyang University, Sungkyunkwan University, Dankook University, Dongguk University, Kyung Hee University, and Chung-Ang University. These Collaborations are centred around student and faculty exchange initiatives as well as research programmes.
Through the guest lecture, BINUS UNIVERSITY hopes to increase collaboration with its South Korean counterparts to better prepare its students and staff for an era of regional integrations. Circulation of people and ideas in higher education sphere is expected to strengthen the knowledge base and create lasting friendships to support future strategic projects.
