Study Permit, Visa, and Other Immigration Matters

A visa is an official document that allows the bearer to legally enter a foreign country. It is usually stamped or glued into the bearer’s passport. There are several types of visas, each granting different rights in the host country. (Source: Passport Index)
Various types of Indonesian visas are available. International students at BINUS University must use the appropriate study visa: index E30B – Limited Stay Permit for Study Purposes (Undergraduate and Master).
Note: Students from Afghanistan, Israel, DPR Korea, Liberia, Nigeria, and Somalia are required to use the calling visa procedure when applying for a visa to Indonesia. This procedure includes an additional clearing process and evaluation by the Immigration.
LETTER OF ACCEPTANCE |
To be eligible for study permit application, you must be granted a letter of attendance. The process usually takes 5-7 working days. You must send the required documents for Letter of Acceptance request to BINUS at least 15 weeks before your expected arrival date.
STUDY PERMIT |
To be eligible for a visa application, you must possess a Study Permit (Izin Belajar/IB). The process usually takes 5-7 working days. You must send the required documents for Study Permit request to BINUS at least 12 weeks before your expected arrival date.

VISA for Study Purposes (Single Entry) |
If your study permit is granted by the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology, BINUS will apply for a visa for study purposes (single-entry) on your behalf. The visa application process usually takes 10-14 working days. This visa is only for single entry.
If your visa request is approved by the Directorate General of Immigration, you will receive the e-visa via email, allowing you to enter Indonesia.
Visa fees: USD 150 per person per request.

ITAS (Limited Stay Permit, Multiple Entry) |
Upon arrival in Indonesia, your visa will be checked by an Immigration officer at the airport or other points of entry. After checking and clearance, you will receive the Limited Stay Permit sticker on your passport. Please ensure that the sticker includes your date of entry and the phrase “Stay Permit”. You must leave Indonesia before your ITAS expires.
ITAS fees (duration max. 12 months): IDR 2,700,000 per person.

Once your study permit, visa, and stay permit are settled, you need to process additional documents to fully secure your stay in Indonesia.

EPO (Exit Permit Only) |
BINUS requires you to leave Indonesia no later than 2 weeks after your program ends. Before you leave, you must obtain an EPO stamp from the Immigration Office. (EPO is the termination of stay permit and return of immigration documents.)
If your EPO request is approved, you will receive EPO stamp in your passport. You must leave Indonesia within this 7-day period.
Note:
• The fine for illegal stay (either due to an expired ITAS or EPO) is IDR 1,000,000 per day.
• Failure to obtain an EPO may result in refusal of future visa requests.

Can I enter Indonesia with a Visa on Arrival (VoA) or visit visa for tourism purposes and change it to a visa for study purposes? | No. |
I have ITAS sponsored by other parties (e.g. parents, family, company). What should I do? | If you prefer to use the ITAS during your study at BINUS University, that is acceptable. However, you still need to request the Study Permit.
If you wish to obtain ITAS with BINUS sponsorship, you must start the process from the beginning. |
When does my ITAS expire? | Check your passport. The validity of your ITAS is indicated on the Stay Permit sticker.
BINUS will request 12-month ITAS for you. However, please note that BINUS requires you to leave Indonesia no later than 2 weeks after your program ends. BINUS may terminate its sponsorship of your ITAS unilaterally if you do not comply. |
I have a diplomatic/investor ITAS. Should I apply for a visa for study purposes? | No, you can stay in Indonesia and study at BINUS University with a diplomatic or investor visa.
However, please note that you are not allowed to work if you have an ITAS for study purposes. |
What happens if I do not request EPO (Exit Permit Only)? | Failure to request EPO, leave Indonesia when your ITAS expires, or leave Indonesia when your EPO expires may result in illegal stay status. The fine for illegal stay is IDR 1,000,000 per day. |
I want to move to another dormitory room, house, or apartment. What should I do? | You must inform the BINUS Internationalization officer who will assist you with the address change report. The address change process usually takes 2-3 working days. |
