Requesting a Visa for Study Purposes

A visa is an official authorization or document issued by a country’s government that permits a foreign national to enter, stay, or transit through that country for a specific period and purpose. The type of visa you require depends on the purpose of your visit, such as tourism, work, business, or study. In Indonesia, visa applications are processed and approved by the Directorate General of Immigration, which is part of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. To apply for a visa, you can visit the official visa portal at https://evisa.imigrasi.go.id/. This portal provides access to the different types of visas available for various purposes, along with detailed instructions on how to apply.

If you are planning to study at BINUS University, you will need to apply for a study visa. Specifically, students must obtain a visa with the following indexes: E30B for undergraduate programs, E30C for master’s programs, and E30D for doctoral programs. The study visa for Indonesia requires sponsorship and a recommendation from an Indonesian educational institution or company. For BINUS University, this means that you will need a formal study permit, which must be obtained before the visa application can proceed.

Once you have received your study permit, BINUS University’s Internationalization Office will apply for the visa on your behalf. This process involves submitting the necessary documents and paying the visa fees. The processing time for the visa typically takes between 7 to 10 days, provided the visa payment has been successfully processed and verified. During this time, your application will be reviewed by immigration authorities, and if everything is in order, the visa will be approved.

Upon approval, the visa will allow you to enter Indonesia and stay in the country for a maximum of 30 days. However, it is important to note that this initial visa is valid for only a short stay. You must use the visa to enter Indonesia within 60 days of the issuance date, as the visa will expire if not used within that period.

In addition to the study visa, once you arrive in Indonesia, you will need to convert your visa into an ITAS (Limited Stay Permit). The ITAS is a more long-term permit that allows you to legally stay in the country for the duration of your studies. This process involves biometric data collection at the airport upon your arrival. The ITAS is crucial because, without it, you will not be able to remain in Indonesia beyond the initial 30 days allowed by the study visa.

Moreover, the ITAS includes a Re-entry Permit, meaning that you will be able to leave and re-enter Indonesia as needed during your studies, without having to reapply for a new visa each time. The ITAS ensures that your stay in Indonesia is legal and properly documented, and it grants you the necessary permissions to study and live in the country.
