Before stepping into their first classes, students took part in the BINUS PATH (Preparation and Adjustment for Transition to Home) Series, our signature orientation program designed to support international students as they transition into studying and living in Indonesia. The welcoming session, held on 27 January at our Bekasi campus, offered more than just an introduction, and it became their first experience of learning in a vibrant campus environment located in the heart of a dynamic metropolitan and industrial city.

The session began in a warm and open atmosphere. Our Vice-Rector for Collaboration and Global Engagement, Dr. Rini Setiowati, together with Prof. Gatot Soepriyanto, BINUS @Bekasi Campus Director, greeted the students with enthusiasm, encouraging them to explore, connect, and fully experience life at BINUS both inside and outside the classroom. The moment reflected BINUS’s spirit as a community that values connection, care, and shared experiences beyond academics.

“At BINUS, you are not just coming to study. You are becoming part of a community that grows together, learns from one another, and embraces diversity,” shared Dr. Rini, encouraging students not to worry and assuring them that the BINUS community would be there to help them feel at home.

Building on this message, Prof. Gatot invited students to actively explore BINUS campuses and engage with the local community in Bekasi. He highlighted how learning in an industrial and metropolitan city provides valuable real-world exposure, enriching students’ perspectives and complementing their academic experiences in the classroom. Not only that, Prof. Gatot also encouraged students to take time to travel around, explore different places, and experience Indonesia’s vibrant cultures and nature during their stay.

The smooth running of the welcoming sessions reflected the strong support from the Internationalization team, BINUS @Bekasi colleagues, and iBuddy+ students. From airport arrivals to first-day guidance, their involvement played a key role in helping exchange students settle in comfortably.

After completing the first day of orientation, students took part in a two-day outdoor activity at Ciliwung Tea in Puncak, Bogor. The program aimed to encourage friendship, strengthen bonds, and foster early connections among participants. Although rainy weather limited outdoor plans, activities continued indoors, creating an atmosphere filled with conversation, laughter, and meaningful interaction.

“I’ve had such a great experience from the very beginning. The iBuddy team has been incredibly friendly and helpful in supporting us to settle in and stay engaged throughout the program, which made me feel safe and comfortable,” shared Nadia Skuse from Hochschule München, Germany, reflecting on her three-day orientation experience.

As we wrapped up the BINUS PATH Series, the journey for these students was only just beginning. In the months ahead, they will have many opportunities to engage with BINUS communities, collaborate with local and international peers, and explore the rich cultures, cities, and everyday life of Indonesia.
