Champions: A Story of Strength, Empathy, and True Victory

Jakarta, 16 April— BINUS University, in partnership with the Faculty of Humanities, is excited to host the screening of “Campeones,” internationally recognized as ” Champions. ” This award-winning Spanish sport comedy film is directed by Javier Fesser and will be shown at our Anggrek Campus.

The story charts the transformation of Marco Montes, a hot-headed basketball coach sentenced to community service for drunk driving, who is assigned to coach Los Amigos—a team of athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Released in 2018, Champions was praised by critics and audiences alike and earned a 7.2 IMDb rating and 12 major film awards, including the Best Film at the 33rd Goya Awards—Spain’s premier film awards.

It sheds light on the everyday biases faced by people with intellectual disabilities, even as they pursue something as universal as their love for basketball. As the team pushes past limitations placed on them by others, they also push Marco to grow by teaching him about empathy, inner strength, and the true meaning of victory.

This engagement is part of the university’s effort to deepen Spanish cultural exchange and broaden the global horizon. In addition, the arrival of His Excellency Francisco de Ass Aguilera Aranda as the Ambassador of Spain to Indonesia will provide participants with the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations that open avenues for collaboration.

In a world where differences are often misunderstood, Champions invites us to see beyond limitations and discover the strength in unity. This award-winning story blends humor with humanity, offering a powerful message about the courage to keep going, embrace others, and grow as one.
