An Extraordinary Experience Exploring International Green Campuses
Singapore – After an amazing trip to Singapore for three days (22-25/07), Devin Fahrezi Alandeta, a Marketing Communication Student from the Faculty of Digital Communication and Hotel Tourism had a chance to sit down with us to share about his experience to learn how we can be a more sustainable campus from one of the world’s top university – National University in Singapore (NUS)! On a Green Campus Initiative Event organized by our Faculty of Engineering.
Q: So, how was it?
A: It was awesome! I saw the NUS initiative in providing facilities to promote the Green Lifestyle for student through facilities such as solar panels, separate waste disposal, and a hybrid cooling system as part of the pathway to creating a greener campus!
Q: What did you like the most?
A: I had the chance to meet with Mrs. Amy Ho, the Director of Sustainability and Resilience at NUS. I learned that NUS is very ambitious and determined to advocate for many of its green initiatives with its academic and local communities! I also love the NUS Campus Vibes which very full of greenery and a healthy environment.
Q: Do you think its possible to implement these initiatives at home?
A: I see no reason why we shouldn’t! As a top-notch university, we should all work towards the same goal: contributing to a more sustainable Earth!
Q: Any new learning?
A: I was inspired by NUS’s environmental stewardship and so moved by its passion and determination that I still can’t shake it off! It’s off the roof! It made me want to do something! The NUS is also very detailed. They count each aspect to make the campus more sustainable and green.
Q: What are you going to do?
A: I can start small from myself! By utilizing every facility that campuses already provide to live greener.
Q: What can you share to others about this trip?
A: My trip to NUS has been eye-opening regarding how a green lifestyle can only be achieved through massive collaboration and action between various parties. Considering each aspect will be crucial to reaching the greenest lifestyle and moving towards a sustainable future. Therefore, taking small actions and promoting a green lifestyle is very important to help us reach a more sustainable future.
Thank you, Devin, for sharing this story with us. We hope that this trip will inspire you to take part and inspire others to see that they have a role to play, too.
