Jakarta, 5 March 2024 – BINUS University recently welcomed His Excellency Agus Widjojo Letjen TNI (Purn), the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to the Republic of the Philippines, to discuss Indonesia’s security sector reform with our students from the International Relations program.
During the session, Dinna Prapto Raharja, Ph.D., the Executive Director of Synergy Policies and lecturer in International Relations at BINUS, moderated the discussion, prompting the audience to express their viewpoints regarding the Indonesian National Armed Forces (Tentara Nasional Indonesia, TNI) and their role in the democratic reform process with more than 100 students, along with Rangga Aditya, Ph.D., the Head of the International Relations program, participated in this interactive workshop arranged by Synergy Policies at our Kijang Campus.
Some expressed uncertainty, raising questions about the political landscape at that time, the necessity of the reformation, its degree of success, and the role of the military in ensuring political security.
Addressing the questions, concerns, and curiosity of the students, His Excellency Agus Widjojo calmy recounted how military personnel at that time did not act hastily, but instead took time to devise strategies aimed at safeguarding national security while adhering their loyalty to Indonesia’s Constitution..
We couldn’t thanked everyone who joined the session as we together delved deeper into the narrative of the security sector reform that transpired two decades ago!
