BINUS UNIVERSITY Student Wins Video Competition
On 21st February 2019, BINUS Northumbria School of Design student Ms Cindy Claudia won first place at the Aku dan Kotaku: Video Competition at a ceremony held in Jakarta. The competition was organized by Damai Putra Group — a local property developer engaged in the development of landed homes, commercial property, and mixed-use developments — who asked participants to produce a one-minute video describing why they love the cities they reside in and aspects which should be improved.
Ms Claudia created an innovative animation through which she illustrated life in her city of Jakarta. From its modern high rises to commercial centres to its economic attraction for people from across the Indonesian archipelago, Jakarta combines diverse communities and cultures and has now become the world’s second largest urban agglomeration.
Furthermore, Ms Claudia also showcased the major challenges that Jakarta is facing such as rapid urban growth, gridlocked traffic and congestion, and poverty and inequality, among many others. Through her video, she suggested that the city develops a network of parks and open spaces that include natural lands and ecological reserves as they can provide healthy habitats for humans, wildlife, and plants.
Ms Claudia’s win is a testament to the unique curriculum offered at the BINUS Northumbria School of Design. The courses emphasize both theoretical knowledge as well as practical experience, enabling students to create inspiring projects that are showcased on the international stage.
