BINUS UNIVERSITY Students Win Asian Games Video Contest

On 12 th May 2018, a team of BINUS UNIVERSITY students were announced as winners of
the Asian Games Vignette film competition at a ceremony held at the Jakarta Convention
Centre. The students have the opportunity to travel to London and attend a
filmmaking course at the National Film and Television School, and their winning video is sent to the broadcasters of the 2018 Asian Games and used to promote the event
worldwide.

Organised by host broadcaster IGBS, the short film competition encouraged university
students from across the country to produce dynamic and original short videos that
incorporated the themes; ‘Unity and Diversity’, ‘The Energy of Asia’, ‘The World is
Watching’, and ‘Preparing for Triumph’. BINUS UNIVERSITY team ‘Iseng-Iseng’ were
presented as winners with their video submission which took inspiration from the 4 th Asian
Games in 1962 — the first time Indonesia hosted the event.

Through their video, the team illustrated how the 1962 Asian Games brought local
communities together, spurred on by their desire to see Indonesian athletes succeed on the
international stage and the pride of having their country host the second largest multi-sport
event after the Olympic Games. The video also highlighted how, with television only being
introduced in Indonesia in 1955, the majority of the public received their updates on the
games via radio — a crucial tool that provided education and information since before
independence.

The recent achievements of BINUS UNIVERSITY’s students in winning this contest is the
result of the long-term investments to provide comprehensive facilities and highly-qualified
teaching staff. This forward-thinking strategy aimed at supporting creative minds has
empowered graduates with the skills to lead major academic and industry breakthroughs.
