International Seminar on Freedom of Expression

On January 15, BINUS UNIVERSITY welcomes James P. Feldmayer, Political Officer of U.S. Embassy and Constantin N. Karame, First Secretary of Royal Norwegian Embassy. During the visit, they delivered a seminar on “The Freedom of Expression” alongside Mr. Yusa, BINUS lecturer from Marketing Communication program to the student of Marketing Communication moderated by Mr. Marginata, faculty members from the same Department at Exhibition Hall, Anggrek Campus. The seminar explores on freedom of expression, on its logic in democracies, on the hierarchy among the fundamental rights, regulation, right of reply as well as the tension between hate speech and the right to freedom of expression as a recurrent phenomenon in potentially violent contexts. The students showed much enthusiasm and eagerly interacted with our visiting embassy officers as they raised questions and expressed opinions during the Q & A session.
