Universities Unite for Sustainable Solutions
Makassar, 25 November 2023 – As a testament to our shared commitment to environmental sustainability, Hasanuddin University proudly hosted the Nationwide University Network in Indonesia (NUNI) gathering, involving 21 member universities in the highly anticipated Annual Presidential Forum and Student Camp from November 21st to 24th, 2023.
The attending rectors and leaders didn’t just review this year’s activities; they focused on discussing innovative efforts across NUNI’s four pillars: Student Mobility, Faculty and Staff Mobility, Research and Innovation, and Global Reputation. This meeting was a pivotal step in emphasizing a joint commitment to addressing and tackling environmental challenges, from addressing environmental degradation to navigating the wide-reaching impacts of climate change, as well as crises concerning food and energy resources.
“NUNI, formed 12 years ago with 21 university members, stands as a powerful entity. Let’s leverage this platform for collaborative ventures. Over time, our focus has been on promoting academic excellence in partnership with higher education institutions to support Merdeka Belajar program,” said The Rector of Universitas Hasanuddin, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc.
Students played a significant role through the Student Camp, where over 50 high-achieving participants with tangible track records in enhancing environmental quality actively contributed. They had the opportunity to enhance their capabilities through educational programs, research opportunities, and community engagement aimed at fostering an environment that encourages innovation with a sustainable solutions-oriented approach.
The collaborative spirit among NUNI members remains steadfast in driving tangible change through sustained leadership efforts for both the community and the academic body, marking a crucial step towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
