Binusian and Disney Unite to Share 50,000 Meals with Rise Against Hunger

Jakarta, September 23, 2023 – Joining forces together with The Walt Disney Company, Rise Against Hunger, Hope Worldwide Indonesia, and Teach for Indonesia in the “Disney 100 Food-packing VoluntEARS Project with Rise Against Hunger” at BINUS @ Alam Sutera.

Over 100 passionate volunteers, including spirited students, dedicated BINUS UNIVERSITY staff, and the ever-enthusiastic Disney VoluntEARS, packed a whopping 50,000 meals!

This heart-warming initiative, driven by a passion to help others, was born from a shared desire to strengthen food security for underserved communities. It began with an exciting food-packing event in Singapore, and then the Disney VoluntEARS continued its inspiring journey to Indonesia and the Philippines. As a result, this effort, one of Disney’s largest volunteer initiatives in Southeast Asia, packaged and distributed a staggering 120,000 meals across three countries.

Dr. Nelly, S.Kom., M.M., the Rector of BINUS UNIVERSITY, roared with pride as she addressed the crowd, ” What we’re achieving today is nothing short of extraordinary. From all walks of life, we have united to take concrete actions to leave a lasting, positive mark on society.”

She added that while this mission is a Herculean task, the unbreakable bonds of teamwork among these remarkable volunteers will triumph alongside Disney and Rise Against Hunger.

“Today is living proof that we can scale monumental heights when we stand united. This event also serves as a golden opportunity for Binusians to cultivate and amplify their social awareness—an essential facet of the BINUS Graduate Attributes,” said Dr. Nelly.

Harmonizing with the resounding vision of BINUS UNIVERSITY 2035, “a world-class university, fostering and empowering society in building and serving the nation,” this initiative seeks to amplify BINUS UNIVERSITY’s impact on society, with students as torchbearers of this vision.

Marcelly, an enthusiastic Finance student at BINUS UNIVERSITY, excitedly shared her experience of the initiative, calling it a “ray of sunshine.” She said that as a BINUS UNIVERSITY student, she and her peers were finally able to be a part of something bigger and contribute to communities both near and far.

The “Disney 100 Food-packing VoluntEARS Project with Rise Against Hunger” is a shining example of how BINUS UNIVERSITY is living up to its mission to make a positive difference in the world. Through this initiative, BINUS UNIVERSITY inspires its students to become socially conscious changemakers committed to building a better future for all.
