Building Collaboration, Strengthening the Reputation and Recognition of BINUS UNIVERSITY

Singapore, 22 September 2023 – Prof. Dr. Tirta Nugraha Mursitama, Ph.D., Vice-Rector for Collaboration and Global Engagement (CGE) at BINUS University, attended the DT | UX Summit 2023 on September 22, 2023, at Singapore Polytechnic, Singapore. Representing the Rector of BINUS University, Dr. Nelly, S.Kom., MM., the visit to Singapore reaffirmed the collaboration of the DTUX regional university consortium in Southeast Asia, consisting of Singapore Polytechnic (Singapore),  King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (Thailand), Ateneo University (the Philippines), and our university.

During the Summit, the four university leaders welcomed a new member, Symbiosis International University (India). The addition of this new member further strengthens the design thinking consortium and makes it more impactful.

The delegation from BINUS University was led by Prof. Tirta and the project design thinking team with team leader Ari Margiono, Ph.D., and members Febby Pratama, Tatum Adiningrum, Ph.D., Achmad Seiichi Ramadhan, and Dr. Abdul Rohman. Each consortium member presented their projects from the past year. Febby Pratama, Head of Business Incubator BINUS @ Malang, presented the project “Building A Healthy Nation”.

In addition to attending the DT | UX Summit 2023, our Vice-Rector and Ari Margiono sat with Associate Prof. Dr. Leonard Sebastian, Ph.D., from S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) over a friendly breakfast meeting. Prof. Sebastian is a longtime colleague of the Vice-Rector, both specializing in the study of International Relations, especially in Southeast Asia.

During the meeting, possibilities for future collaboration between BINUS University’s International Relations students and other academic cooperation were discussed. Follow-up on this meeting will be carried out with relevant officials and the Collaboration and Global Engagement team at our University.

The meeting with Prof. Dr. Ishtiaq Mahmood, Ph.D. Head of Program Strategy and Policy at NUS Business School also highlighted the importance of impactful research. Prof. Mahmood is an expert in strategy, business, and policy, having produced numerous high-quality academic papers in highly reputable international journals, with an H-index of 14. This indicates the high quality and impact of his scholarly work.

With the history for more than 17 years,  from his doctoral studies in Japan to now being a professor at our university, Prof. Mahmood expressed his willingness to collaborate with BINUS University with the hope that there will be concrete and fruitful cooperation with our university in the near future.

Prof. Tirta’s visit to Singapore from September 21 to 23, 2023, in his capacity as Vice Rector for Collaboration and Global Engagement (CGE) at BINUS University, marks his first international visit since his appointment on August 14, 2023. This visit successfully combined attending a consortium meeting of regional university leaders, meeting with Prof. Dr. Don Norman, Ph.D. a globally renowned academic, designer, psychologist, and businessman who served as the guest of honor speaker at the Summit, as well as strengthening Prof. Tirta’s personal network with academics from two leading universities, NUS and NTU that will enhance the global reputation and recognition of BINUS University.

All of these endeavors serve as a strong foundation for ongoing collaboration and global engagement by BINUS University in the future. This step also aligns with Goal 17 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which focuses on partnerships for goals. Naturally, the various programs and faculties at BINUS University will directly support and implement this collaboration.
