Co-Hosting 5th UNESCO-APEID Meeting on Entrepreneurship Education

unesco 2On 26th September 2016 BINUS UNIVERSITY hosted the 5th UNESCO-APEID Meeting on Entrepreneurship Education, which was held at its JWC campus. The gathering had a central topic that focused on ‘Transforming Entrepreneurs for Sustainable Business and Job Generation’.  The two-day event is a collaborative effort between BINUS UNIVERSITY, Padjadjaran University and UNESCO which aimed to highlight the importance of entrepreneurship education as a means to develop the necessary technical, vocational as well as leadership skills needed to produce high-impact entrepreneurs, with the capability to contribute to greater job creation.

BINUS UNIVERSITY’s CEO, Mr Bernard Gunawan, Director of UNESCO Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Shabaz Khan, Director of UNESCO Bangkok Dr Gwang Jo-Kim and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, Mr Agus Muharram, were among the 100 distinguished guests from academia, industries, government institutions, as well as entrepreneurs who shared their invaluable insights on utilising collaborative research and innovative curricula to encourage entrepreneurs to become prominent business owners in Indonesia. Furthermore, selected BINUS UNIVERSITY students had the opportunity to present their business ideas to investors and industry players.

Through this meeting, BINUS UNIVERSITY hopes to influence Indonesia’s young demographic as the country takes steps to solidify its competitiveness amid increasing regional integration. This is evident from the university’s 3+1 enrichment programme which offers undergraduate students the opportunity to engage in community development, research, as well as start-up incubators; this measure aims to hone in on soft skills while also providing real-world business experience for enrolled students. As such, BINUS UNIVERSITY’s entrepreneurial culture within its curricula and campus produces graduates that have the necessary skills to enable businesses to grow and create new forms of employment opportunities in Indonesia.
